Brooklyn Park Gymnast to Compete at 2023 Special Olympics in Berlin
A journey that started 32 years ago is reaching its pinnacle for gymnast Tiffany Carey. This summer she’ll compete in artistic gymnastics at the Special Olympics World Games in Germany.
“My dream has been to go to a World Games,” says Carey, 48. She lives in Brooklyn Park and trains at Mini Hops Gymnastics in Plymouth.
Carey’s first competition was at the 2006 Special Olympics USA National Games where she won five medals including a gold.
“She’s a competitor, loves to compete and she rises to the challenge,” says Carey’s coach, Michaela Chelberg.
Carey pushes hard during her training sessions which are now aiming to improve the skills she’ll need for the World Games. To escape the grind of training Carey plays bingo every week at the Palmer Lake VFW, where she was recently honored for making the World Games team.
Carey says she’s not nervous for the World Games and doesn’t even really care about winning. Her main goal is to inspire others to achieve their dreams.
“Don’t give up on yourself, keep going, keep trying your best cause my feeling is it’s not about winning gold, it’s try your best,” says Carey.
The Special Olympics World Games are June 17-25 in Berlin.
