Brooklyn Park Girl Becomes Chief for a Day
One soon-to-be sixth grader took on a tough job Wednesday. Sarai Roberts was sworn in to be chief of the Brooklyn Park Police Department. She won the opportunity after receiving a “golden ticket” from the department’s candy bar initiative.
Candy Bar Initiative Grabs National Attention
Brooklyn Park police garnered national attention when they gave a way nearly 7,000 candy bars to kids in the community. Sarai was given a tour of city hall and the police station. She also got to wear the chief’s badge for the day. Officers say reaching out to young people is vital to fostering a positive relationship.
“I hope the community see’s that we are trying to connect with them,” says Sgt. Nicholas Knoblauch with the Brooklyn Park Police Department. “We are trying to engage outside of enforcement and I think this is just a great way of doing that.”
There are still four other winners who have yet to come forward with their golden tickets. The Brooklyn Park Police Department encourages those winners to come forward. If they do, they too can have a special interaction with the department.
