Brooklyn Park Electric Mobility Ride and Drive Event Is Aug. 29
Ask Tim Pratt about his electric car. He loves to share.
“When you press the accelerator, there’s no combustion,” said Pratt, who bought a Chevrolet Bolt EUV earlier this year. “There’s no lag. It’s an instant torque, an instant of transfer of power. You just take off. It’s so smooth. It’s amazing.”
Pratt said he researched EVs — or electric vehicles — for a long time before buying his Chevy.
“There’s no spark plug, there’s no air filter, so it requires less routine maintenance,” he said. “The cost of ownership is less compared to [an internal] combustion engine.”
As recycling manager for the city of Brooklyn Park, Pratt helped to organize an informational event in Brooklyn Park called the “Electric Mobility Ride and Drive” event.
From 4- 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, anyone who is interested can drop by the Community Activity Center to ask questions or test-drive an electric automobile, bike, or scooter. Electric vehicle owners will be on-site to answer questions, while local leaders can highlight the EV options already available — like electric buses and light rail trains.
“This is the future,” said Pratt. “Transportation is going to be become electric.”
Pratt said that infrastructure that supports the use of electric vehicles can help to spur the growth of new development.
That infrastructure primarily comes in the form of vehicle charging stations.
Pratt said there’s also another potential economic impact for those who go to a business to plug in their vehicle.
“You’re going to go spend some money at a restaurant or a business or whatever, and so it can be an economic generator in that way,” Pratt said.
