Brooklyn Park Celebrates Opening of Small Business Center
The city of Brooklyn Park welcomed city, county, state and federal leaders for the ribbon-cutting of the city’s Small Business Center on Wednesday, capping the long journey from a former fitness gym to what many hope will be an incubator for small business owners and entrepreneurs in the region.
The site of the former original Endurance Fitness location, in a shopping center at Brooklyn Boulevard and West Broadway, has been transformed into a space that houses co-working areas, offices for rent, retail spaces for rent and other common work areas that seek to inspire collaboration and creativity.
“As I look at the history of our state, a little dry-goods store on Nicollet Mall turned into Target. Working in a garage, tinkering around with a medical device turned into Medtronic,” noted U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota.
City and county leaders thanked Klobuchar for helping to secure $1 million in federal funding to help finish the project.
City leaders thanked the staff members of the newly-opened center for all of their hard work to make it a reality and local businesses donated food for the celebration.
“That’s us saying, at least as a city, we’re going to do as much as possible to make sure that new wealth is created within our city,” said Brooklyn Park Mayor Hollies Winston.
The Brooklyn Park Small Business Center will host open houses for anyone interested to come in and find out more about the opportunities available on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
