Brooklyn Park Campers Celebrate World Fair Day
Wednesday was the penultimate day for summer campers in Brooklyn Park, and recreation staff made it a special one. World Fair Day started off with some costumes, singing, then a dance-off. But the central theme was learning about other cultures.
As part of that, kids from Japan and China who’ve been spending the summer at a camp in Minneapolis were invited to share their culture with the kids in Brooklyn Park.
Staff members say World Fair days like this are especially important in this city.
“The community we live in is made up of so many different cultures,” said Brooklyn Park Recreation Supervisor Jen Gillard. “It’s important to us to celebrate the differences among our chttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rX6QV8c77sampers and our staff and in our community.”
Gillard says she hopes campers come away with a sense of curiosity about other cultures.
