Brooklyn Park Breaks Ground on New Central Fire Station

1:27 PM | Wednesday, October 22, 2025

Brooklyn Park city leaders, alongside the fire department and project managers, broke ground on a new central fire station Monday afternoon.

The nearly $45 million project is located at the corner of Zane Avenue and Edinbrook Terrace, near the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center and the fire department’s current headquarters. The site is also the former location of the Hennepin County Library.

A number of community leaders spoke at the groundbreaking, including Mayor Hollies Winston, City Manager Jay Stroebel and former Brooklyn Park firefighter and council member Terry Parks.

In his speech, Fire Chief Shawn Conway thanked community members for their support. He said this new station will better address the city’s needs.

“This is your station, built for your safety and your future,” Conway said. “We are building today far more than a fire station. It’s a promise. It’s a promise to be ready when our community needs us most, a promise to protect those who protect others, and a promise to serve with heart and purpose.”

When Parks spoke, he said the community need has grown significantly over the time he has been in the city. Parks served on the Brooklyn Park City Council from 2015 through 2022.

Conway said in his speech that the new station will eventually produce faster response times. It will also have spaces for training and community tours.

Another one of the building’s focuses is long-term health and wellness. Firefighters face a higher risk of cancer because of exposure to hazardous materials on the job. The new building will have decontamination areas to remove hazardous materials from clothing and gear. It will also have an emergency operations center for coordinating emergency responders.

Kraus Anderson Construction is contracted to build the station. Leaders aim to complete the project by spring 2027 with firefighters moving in that summer.
