Brooklyn Center’s Shingle Creek Crossing Adds New Bubble Tea Shop
Brooklyn Center is home to a new shop that’s putting its own twist on a popular beverage.
102 Boba is located in Shingle Creek Crossing Shopping Center, at 1560 Shingle Creek Pkwy., Suite 116.
Since February, the shop has offered boba tea, smoothies and other yogurt-based specialty drinks to a growing customer base. It also offers coffee and other tea varieties.
The business is owned by Pete Nguyen and his wife Nina Tran.
“All these boba shops, they’re all similar,” said Nguyen. “So we want to bring something different to the boba game.”
According to Nguyen, many boba shops rely on flavored powders to create their recipes. That’s not the case at 102 Boba, where they focus on fresh and unique ingredients.
Nguyen said the result is a drink that’s “colorful and vibrant.”
“Our fresh smoothie, we use real fruits — banana, strawberry, mango, and pineapple,” Nguyen said. “We use fresh taro in our drinks … when you taste it, you can taste the flavor in there, the actual fruits.”
The shop also has a developing menu of offerings.
“I feel like boba tea is always changing,” Nguyen said. “If you keep the same recipe and keep the same stuff it’s always boring. So if something’s new, the kids are getting into it. And some of the kids are really creative. They come up with new flavors.”
The shop will also start offering bingsu, a shaved ice treat paired with fresh fruit, starting sometime this May.
Most drinks at 102 Boba cost between $5.50 and $6.95.
