Brooklyn Center’s Crescent Cove Receives $59K Donation
Crescent Cove in Brooklyn Center, a home-away-from-home for kids with shortened life expectancies, received a big donation on Thursday.
Spirit of Children, the charity arm of nationwide holiday chain Spirit Halloween, presented a $59,000 check to Crescent Cove. John Anderson, the zone manager for the stores in Minnesota, visited the house to drop it off and tour.
All of the money was raised in Minnesota. Anderson said the entirety of the check goes to Crescent Cove. Spirit handles all the administrative fees, he said.
“I think that one of the reasons our guests are so willing to help give is because they know that not only is it going to a great cause,” Anderson said. “Every penny of it is going to that cause.”
Crescent Cove’s respite and hospice care provides care and opportunities for play for kids and their families. It gives some parents time off from full-time care, while also supporting kids who need assistance.
Katie Glitsos, volunteer coordinator with Crescent Cove, said the experiences cost families nothing. Volunteers provide activities for the children, while Crescent Cove covers the materials. This donation helps fund these special, happy moments.
“You know, these families come at their most vulnerable state. And we kind of visibly see that shed off of them when they are here, which is exactly why we are here,” Glitsos said.
Glitsos said Crescent Cove is completely run on philanthropy. Spirit of Children donated $22,000 last year.
