Brooklyn Center Teen Remembered After Accidental Quarry Drowning
Seventeen-year-old Emmanuel Seward, Jr., of Brooklyn Center was identified as the victim of an accidental drowning at a Waite Park quarry.
According to a release from the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, a young man jumped off a 10-foot-high cliff into the water at the Quarry Park and Nature Preserve on Tuesday afternoon. Officers responded to the call shortly after 4 p.m. Searchers found him four hours later in 31 feet of water.
A subsequent release later identified Seward as the victim. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death as accidental drowning.
Emmanuel Seward was a student at Brooklyn Center High School. He participated in football and basketball. CCX Sports caught some of his teamwork in action.
His loved ones are remembering him as the days go on. Brooklyn Center baseball coach Kevin Pitman, shared a post on Facebook commemorating Emmanuel’s legacy.
He recalled Emmanuel’s trademark smirk, and said he will always remember him with that smile on his face.
“Our little baseball program won’t be the same without you E. I take solace in knowing that I never hesitated to tell you that I loved you when I dropped you off after practice,” Pitman wrote in the post.
BCHS students held a private memorial event for Seward on Friday.
This is the third drowning in Quarry Park in the last three years, according to reports from the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.
