Brooklyn Center Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Sexual Assault At Gunpoint
A Brooklyn Center man was sentenced on Friday to more than 14 years in prison after sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint.
Cade Talawalay, 21, admitted to assault — which took place in broad daylight — in court in February.
According to the criminal complaint, a woman was walking on a trail in Brooklyn Park near Shingle Creek off 73rd Avenue on April 24, 2024.
A male suspect, later identified as Talawalay, approached the woman.
He brandished a handgun and took her cellphone. Then, he forced her to walk to a nearby bush and sexually assaulted her.
Talawalay told the victim he would kill her if she told police about the assault.
The victim ran from the scene and called police from her home.

Police found a still image of the suspect in video surveillance and released it to the public.
Talawalay’s stepfather saw the photo and turned his stepson in to police.
Law enforcement officials later found the victim’s cell phone in Talawalay’s bedroom while executing a search warrant.
He will be registered as a predatory sex offender and serve his 172-month prison sentence in the correctional facility at St. Cloud.
After 10 years, he will be eligible for conditional release.
