Brooklyn Center Man Picks Up Park Litter Every Week
As Brooklyn Center resident Tom Green started exploring city parks, he noticed the trash. So, he decided to combine his daily walk with a trash pickup. For the last five years, he’s been picking up trash, sometimes daily, in Brooklyn Center parks.
“Everyone talks about fixing this and doing this, but no one is doing anything. All it is is talk,” said Green. “I feel like I’ve done something, and to me it’s therapeutic to come out here, and walk around and pick stuff up.”
We caught up with Green as he picked up trash in Centennial Park. He planned to pick up trash in East Palmer Lake Park the next day.
Recently, he started posting pictures of his park cleanup pictures on Facebook.
“I get a lot of thanks from people on Facebook and that’s really not what I’m looking for. What I’m looking for is to educate people that it can be different if people take care of it,” said Green. “Do your part. If everyone just took care of what’s around them that they created, this problem wouldn’t be here.”
