Brooklyn Center Launches National Search for Police Chief
Brooklyn Center will partner with a consulting firm to find the city’s next police chief. In a statement, the city says it’s seeking a “strong transformational leader with an equity-focused lens and a clear vision for positive public safety change.” The city anticipates selecting a new chief by late spring.
The consulting firm is DRI Consulting (DRIC) out of North Oaks. The city says the future chief will also be someone “who understands policing and will support and promote the police department, help it to rebuild, contribute to community healing and lead change inside and outside the organization”
The DRIC project team members are Dr. Makesha Spence and Rhovine Small, Ph.D. (owners), Michael S. Jordan (former Commissioner for Public Safety for the State of Minnesota) and Dr. John Fennig (former owner).
The public is invited to share information in a variety of ways. First, they can participate in a public survey.
The public can also attend a virtual community meeting to provide input on what Brooklyn Center needs in a police chief. These are scheduled for Monday, Feb. 7 (7-8 p.m.) or Thursday, Feb. 10 (6-7 p.m.). A Zoom link will be provided closer to date.
The community is welcomed to share feedback at any time to johnfennig@dric.com.
