Brooklyn Center Hotel To Appeal City Ruling Over License Revocation
A Brooklyn Center hotel is getting back to business after the city council revoked its hospitality license.
Suburban Studios, located at 2701 Freeway Blvd., had its hospitality accommodation license revoked on Monday, June 23, but the revocation wasn’t effective until Monday.
It came after city officials discovered a recuperative care business called Care Chexx was operating out of the hotel in violation of the city’s zoning rules.
Care Chexx provides temporary housing to people recovering from surgery who may lack housing stability.

Court Case
An attorney representing the hotel and care business confirmed to CCX News that they have filed a motion to stay the license revocation in the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
“This correspondence provides notice that my clients will challenge the license revocation in the Minnesota Court of Appeals by certiorari review,” wrote attorneys Bryan Huntington and Katherine Cochran to the city council. “My clients will argue that the revocation was arbitrary, capricious, unsupported by substantial evidence, manifestly disproportionate to the violation found, and contrary to law.”
Cochran spoke to the council on Monday, requesting that the council allow the hotel to operate until the court makes a decision.
“The economic impact of denying a stay would be severe for both of my clients,” she said. “It will likely result in dozens of hotel staff losing their jobs and may even result in permanent closure of the hotel operations.”
The council met in private citing attorney-client privilege before making a final decision.
Ultimately, it allowed the hotel to continue its regular business without the Care Chexx operation.
