Brooklyn Center Celebrates Opening of Phu Bia Grocery Store
Phu Bia Produce, a new grocery store in Brooklyn Center, is a one-of-a-kind shop with imported produce from all over the world.
Owner Mai Yia Lor said she had a number of customers in the Brooklyn Center area already, so opening up shop at the Shingle Creek Crossing shopping center was a no-brainer.
Lor said the shop has some fresh produce customers can only get there, as well as spices, rice and a variety of products imported from a number of countries, including Laos.
“Someone that is born in America, and they would go to Thailand or they would go to Laos, they would know that we have the fruit that they have there… here,” Lor said.
The store’s name, Phu Bia, comes from Phou Bia, the name of the tallest mountain in Laos.
Lor said the mountain carries a rich history. She said the store’s name serves as a reminder to the community of struggles that got them there today.
The store is located at 1350 B Shingle Creek Pkwy in Brooklyn Center.
