Breck School Finalizes Deal with Golden Valley American Legion Post
The American Legion post in Golden Valley is headed to a new home after a real estate deal with Breck School.
The Chester Bird American Legion, located at 200 Lilac Dr. N., is moving to the former Red Lobster location at 8900 Golden Valley Rd.
According to a press release, the Legion plans to remodel the space and open in September 2025.
The existing Legion location will continue operations at its existing facility until the remodel is finished.
“This move is an investment in our legacy and our vision for the future,” said Chester Bird Post Commander Craig Hartman in the release. “We look forward to continuing our mission of raising critical support for the local veterans community while maintaining a lasting and visible presence in Golden Valley.”
Meanwhile, the nearby Breck School will expand its campus onto the Legion property.
According to the release, the acquisition is part of the school’s long-term strategic goals.
School officials say they’re still determining what to build on the property.
“We are incredibly proud and honored to reach this milestone in shaping the future for both Breck and the Chester Bird Post #523,” said Natalia R. Hernández, head of Breck School. “Breck’s mission can only be realized through strategic planning and collaboration, and this expansion reflects our commitment to creating a vibrant and student-focused campus.”
The terms of the sale are confidential.
Hennepin County tax records show the former Red Lobster property is valued at $2.4 million in its last assessment.
The Chester Bird property is valued at $1.3 million.
