Beloved Maple Grove Police K-9, Calo, Laid To Rest
A beloved former Maple Grove police K-9 was laid to rest this weekend.
Calo, who police describe as an energetic German Shepherd, retired from the force in 2023. According to a social media post from the Maple Grove police Sgt. Keith Stuart made the decision to put down Calo on August 23. Maple Grove Police Chief Eric Werner said the dog’s health was continuing to decline.
A number of Maple Grove officers and staff gave Calo a final send-off on Friday.
Calo joined the police department in 2018 and helped restart the Maple Grove Police Department’s K-9 program.
When Calo retired, his handler, Sgt. Stuart, called Calo the “best partner he could possibly ask for.”
In the social media post, Chief Werner said the force will remember Calo for his warm personality, drive and serious work on the streets.
“Since 2018, Sergeant Stuart and his energetic partner Calo energized the K-9 program beyond expectations. They graduated from the rigorous 12-week St. Paul Police K-9 Academy,” Werner said. “Our new K-9 team was an immediate success in their daily service and especially with their community outreach during patrol shifts or special events.”
If you have memories or condolences to share about Calo, you can send them to Sgt. Stuart.
