Beloved Maple Grove Gift Shop Announces Plans to Close
A popular gift shop in Maple Grove is shuttering its doors after 40 years of business.
The Woods Gifts, located at 15825 95th Ave. N., will close by late January.
Owners Dave and Linda Looney are retiring and sold the building to Bridal Aisle Boutique, which is currently located in Osseo.
Dave Looney told CCX News the decision to close was four years in the making. He said it’s “bittersweet.”
“We went through the process of trying to sell the business, and retail is really tough over the last four years — not for us,” Dave Looney said. “We’ve had phenomenal sales, which makes it tough for us to leave with business the way it’s been for us over the last four years. But, we made the decision that we wanted The Woods to stand on its own and its own legacy, and that’s why we decided it’s better to walk away on top than seeing something else happen.”
The store is known for its unique holiday offerings, as well as trinkets crafted by local artists.
Customers have been flocking to the store since the closure announcement.
“It’s like every other customer comes in and they have a story to tell about what this store means to them, and it’s their favorite place to shop. But yes, our — Saturday, we broke all records, you know? Unbelievable amount of sales,” said Looney.
After the holidays, the shop will have reduced prices during a retirement closeout sale.
