Becker Park Playground Finds New Life
The transformation continues at Becker Park.
Crews removed the playground equipment at Becker Park on Tuesday morning. It will be donated it to a nonprofit called Kids Around the World. The nonprofit helps playgrounds find a new home in poverty-stricken communities.
“The main idea for what we do is to provide playgrounds in parts of the world where kids don’t have a playground, have never seen a playground, or don’t have the opportunities to enjoy being a child,” said Paul Bierhaus with Kids Around the World. “We’ve built 840 playgrounds as of today in 70 countries. Here in the Twin Cities, we’ve taken down over 110 playgrounds in last 5-6 years.”
Volunteers gathered to take down the playground in a matter of a few hours.
“We’re excited that this playground that’s been able to serve the residents of Crystal for so many years is now going to be able to be moved and used somewhere else where other children can continue using it long into the future,” said John Elholm, Crystal’s Park and Recreation Director.
