Backyard Getaways checks out Schaper Park, Central Park
Newly revamped Schaper Park in Golden Valley mimics a Ninja Warrior course while Central Park in Maple Grove offers something for every age.
Schaper Park in Golden Valley
Kids gravitate to the new Schaper Park in Golden Valley because of the obstacle course – which is the first of its kind in Minnesota.
“Most parks don’t have this kind of stuff,” said Charlie Wrede of New Hope.
This all-inclusive course is a huge draw and makes Schaper a unique spot.
“Fun,” said Shelby Hayes of Maple Grove. “It’s our first time here and the kids love the timer. They love the race track. They figured it out really quick.”
At Schaper Park kids get plenty of fresh air, sunshine and cardio, and the parents are all on board with that.
“When we’re cooped up all winter we try to run em hard and play hard in the summer to off-set the cold months here in Minnesota, ” Hayes said… “We’ve seen friends come here, we’ve seen pictures. We just had it on our list of things to check out this summer.”
Central Park in Maple Grove
Central Park in Maple Grove offers something for everyone. Perks include a climbing wall, a 24-foot tower, slides, swings and a rubberized surface.
“The kids really love all the different kinds of equipment,” said Suzanne Brandt. “Lots of different things to do. They also have a splash pad as well, which the kids really enjoy.”
Central Park has a large footprint and can absorb big crowds that typically show up on a gorgeous summer day.
“There is a lot of people out here today,” Brandt said. “But it does seem like there is no wait for the kids to get on any kind of equipment because there is just so many pieces and things to do.”
The park is so popular that Brandt drove 15 miles from New Brighton so her son Ethan could have some fun in the sun.”
“He’s pretty excited,” Brandt said. “It’s a lot of fun for him to climb and jump on different things and slide down different slides.”
