Authorities ID 11-Year-Old Fatally Struck By Bus in Brooklyn Park
Authorities have released the identity of of a child that was fatally hit by a bus in Brooklyn Park last week.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office says 11-year-old Mahad Osman died after he was struck by a Metro Transit bus.
Osman was hit around 6 a.m. last Wednesday near 71st Avenue and Bottineau Boulevard.
Police say Osman was standing in the northbound lane of Bottineau Boulevard before he was hit.
First responders attempted life-saving measures but Osman died at the scene.
According to Metro Transit, the bus driver will undergo drug and alcohol testing, and is on administrative leave while police continue to investigate the incident. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
“This is an incredibly sad day at Metro Transit,” said Lesley Kandaras, Metro Transit general manager after incident occurred. “My heart goes out to the family of the child, our bus operator, and all those affected by this tragedy.”
