And That’s a Wrap: Plymouth Boulevard Construction Complete
A major construction project on Plymouth Boulevard has finally wrapped up.
The city of Plymouth has been rebuilding a stretch of Plymouth Boulevard between Rockford Road and Highway 55 for about eight months.
Construction crews recently finished working on the roadway, opening four new roundabouts to traffic.
“The four roundabouts in the corridor will help with traffic, it will minimize the number of accidents and the severity of accidents,” said Joseph Shamla, assistant city engineer for Plymouth. “But it is also more pedestrian friendly. So it will slow down vehicles.”
The final costs for construction came in around $11 million.
With the roadway back open, drivers will have an easier time accessing city amenities and local businesses.
“Our nearby businesses are very excited,” Shamla said. “They started getting a little anxious towards the end as they want their customers back, they want people to be back in the area, and we’re excited to have them back.”
Landscaping work will continue in the corridor next summer, but the road work should last decades.
