Allina Health Cancer Institute Expands Comprehensive Care to Plymouth
West metro patients are getting access to comprehensive cancer care thanks to an expansion at the Allina Health Cancer Institute in Plymouth.
Battling cancer can be an isolating experience. Staff members at the cancer center, located inside the Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth campus, are bringing treatment closer to home.
Patti McAninch received a life-changing cancer diagnosis in April.
“I found out I had breast cancer from my mammogram, which I am ever-grateful that I go every year,” McAninch said.
McAninch said she has a solid support system in her family and friends.
“It is not just what you do here,” McAninch said. “It affects your life on a daily basis.”
McAninch knew it was important for her to find a solid support team. She found that team close to where she lives.
Expansion of Cancer Services
Allina Health’s Cancer Institute’s expansion means that the hospital now offers comprehensive cancer services. That includes infusion services, more oncology providers and a bigger space.
Mike Koroscik, vice president of oncology with Allina Health, said donor donations made that space possible.
“We are so honored and excited,” Koroscik said. “It is all cancer types now. It was historically associated with our largest tumor type, breast cancer.”
Koroscik said offering that range is critical.
“It is creating that one-stop-shop without having to duplicate services,” Koroscik said.
It all goes back to the patients. Patients like McAninch.
“It really does not feel like you are going in for treatment,” McAninch said. “You are just here and you spend your time chatting with them.”
McAninch said she is grateful for the space.
“When you are going through something this momentous, being comfortable is everything, I think,” McAninch said.
The new space is located at 2855 Campus Drive, Suite 150 in Plymouth.
