After 20 Years of Labor, Crystal Couple Embraces Residential Garden
A family in Crystal has turned their yard into a garden oasis.
It’s been 20 years in the making for Tony and Lisa Beckstrom.
They started planting grass and a hostas in their back yard when their kids grew up and left home.
“We ended up with a backyard that was very nice and shady for us to relax in but there wasn’t a blade of grass back here,” Tony said. “It just kind of took over and became a fun hobby.”
Over the years, they planted a host of perennial flowers and installed pergolas and homemade water features.
When they ran out of space, they built a rain garden in the front yard, which brought along some surprise visitors: pollinators.
“A lot of butterflies, a ton of big honey bees and those big fuzzy ones out front that those species of flowers attracts,” Tony said.
