Acrobatics Training Facility Moving to Golden Valley
An aerial arts and acrobatics training school is moving from Hopkins to Golden Valley.
The Golden Valley City Council approved a conditional use permit for a business called The Aviary this week.
“I’m really excited — this is a really, this is a fun businesses, and it’s going to drive I think a whole new group of people to come into our city,” said Golden Valley City Council Member Denise La Mere-Anderson.
The business is moving from its location at 118 Shady Oak Rd. in Hopkins to 825 Boone Avenue in Golden Valley.
The site was previously home to Tech Dump.
“Our niche trade is targeted towards a very small and select group of people,” wrote the business owners in a correspondence with city planners. “The clientele seeks our business out in hopes of having personal and professional improvement in the aerial arts, such as aerial sling, static trapeze and split panel silks — apparatuses not found in a standard gym or dance studio.”
The facility will also host private parties.
“Before taking ownership of The Aviary, I had to travel across the states and oversees to even find training facilities like the one we have now,” the business owner wrote to the city planning officials. “I helped open a circus school in Egypt and was lucky enough to train in Prague as well — I am very passionate about this work.”
