105-year-old Plymouth Resident Gets Police Ride As Birthday Gift
A Plymouth woman who celebrated a landmark birthday late last year was finally able to cash in on one of her birthday gifts.
Hootie Wakefield turned 105 years old on Dec. 8.
One of her birthday gifts was a ride-along with the Plymouth Police Department.
Police officers picked her up in front of a crowd of well-wishers at The Waters of Plymouth senior living on Friday.
“I did it one other time, and it’s fun,” Wakefield said. “I love it. They’re all darling.”
Wakefield got a front-seat view as officers drove her around town. They also took her to Honey & Mackie’s for a treat.
Wakefield’s daughter, Kathy Theissen was also invited along for the ride.
She says her mother has been a long-time supporter of first responders.
“She was very excited about doing this — she’s up for anything,” Theissen said, laughing. “And she loves all of these police officers and firemen, I mean they’ve been so wonderful coming and seeing her, and celebrating all of her birthdays. And so she loves them.”
Wakefield has 36 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She says taking vitamins helped her live a long life.
“For years she took tons of vitamins,” Theissen said. “She credits her long life to the vitamins … and I guess it worked.”
Wakefield was also gifted a ride-along with the Plymouth Fire Department.
