What are your qualifications for this office?
Currently I serve as Mayor of Brooklyn Park, helping to guide the city to greater economic development, lower crime and higher community pride. I am a board member for the League of MN Cities and on the National Advisory Board for Cities United, along with active involvement in the Obama Foundation’s My Brothers Keeper. I founded the Blue Line Now! Coalition, as well as serve on the Hennepin County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee and the Heading Home Hennepin Executive Committee.
What do you hope to accomplish in office?
Given the current economic realities, it is imperative we right size our county budget while focusing on results to guide our investments. The status quo is not good enough, we need to be better. I want to increase the transit options in our communities, address mental health challenges which are at the heart of many issues, and address inequalities in our communities. We need a park trail system that connects all parks in our district and to partner with cities to deliver services.
