Diversity Minute 6: The Allyship Test
The Allyship Test
Good Intentions versus Actions
I have an allyship test for you today. This is your very own personal self-test. Just answer one question:
What action have you taken today as an ally?
That’s it. What action step have you taken this week? The key word is action which is defined as the process of doing something.
If you believe yourself to be someone who stands up against injustice, you should be doing something. If you believe yourself to be someone who supports people of color, women, or other marginalized identities, then you should be doing something…always. Feeling compassion, anger or sadness are valid, but feelings don’t improve anything without action.
So, every day, we should be asking ourselves — What action have I taken as an ally?
