Diversity Minute 5: Action, the third step
Last step of effective allyship is Action
What does taking Action look like?
Action is the last step in The A.C.A. PillarsTM of effective allyship. Being effective change agents requires action because merely feeling bad about an injustice or the lack of diversity is simply not enough.
This Action step requires us to hold ourselves accountable to doing something, and there are many options. Consider the following:
- Start by learning about the needs of a group and how THEY would like you to engage with them and come alongside to join their efforts.
- Get involved with policy development at work or in government to help improve diversity and inclusion efforts.
- Contribute financially to an after-school program in an area of high need.
- Help a colleague of color receive better recognition at work.
All of these options listed above are valuable. What ACTION steps will you commit to taking?
Being effective change agents requires action; merely feeling bad about an injustice or the lack of diversity is simply not enough.
