Diversity Minute 4: Courage, the second step
Being an effective ally takes Courage
Dr. Rassheedah continues our deeper dive into The A.C.A. PillarsTM. As we look at the three steps to effective allyship, the second pillar is Courage. Many people comfortably engage in the first pillar of Awareness and they build up their knowledge base. But, when it’s time to intervene or stand up against an injustice, the courage to take a stance is missing – and this upholds the toxic status quo.
Why is Courage important and how do you build it?
To overcome this and build your courage, understand your WHY? Ask yourself:
Why is it important for me to be a part of the solution?
If we truly seek to be effective, we must courageously stand in our values for justice, diversity and inclusion. What is your WHY?
