Diversity Minute 18: Employee Resource Groups
Employee Resource and Affinity Groups defined
How it helps inclusion in the workplace
To build an inclusive workplace, consider creating Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) or Affinity groups that cater to your organization’s needs.
For example, do you have employees of color or LGBTQ+ employees who could be better supported? Perhaps, there’s a small group of women in a male-predominant space?
What is the goal of ERGs?
The goal of ERGs or Affinity groups is to offer a space where folks feel at ease connecting with other like-minded people. Members often feel more comfortable discussing issues or celebrating topics relevant to their identity group.
The host organization should donate funds for group speakers and celebrations. This leads to better engaged employees and improved retention. It’s a win-win for everyone.
. . . better engaged employees and improved retention. It’s a win-win for everyone.
