Zanewood Podcast Shines Light On Youth Perspective
Young people at the Zanewood Recreation Center in Brooklyn Park are lending their voices to a new podcast called, The Wood.
Podcast host Bruce Williams introduces topics ranging from mental health to friendship.
“Sometimes we don’t hear what it is the youth is trying to say,” states Williams. “There’s a lot of times in the podcast where I have flashbacks, like man, I remember feeling like that as a kid.”
The participants are tweens and teens who’ve been attending the Zanewood Recreation Center for years.
“We get to talk about stuff that other people wouldn’t really like to talk about at school,” said 12 year-old O’Ryan Davis.
“You get to meet new people, talk about new things and learn,” stated 14 year-old Danny Farkarlun.
“The conversation that you do have you’re in a group and everyone’s talking about the same thing and it’s ongoing,” said 15 year-old Ellayah Smith.
The city of Brooklyn Park hopes to get funding in place to record future seasons of the podcast.
Season one of The Wood is available on podcast platforms including Spotify.
