West Metro Fire-Rescue District Offers Smart 911 App
West Metro Fire-Rescue District–covering Crystal and New Hope–is using the Smart911 app to better communicate with those who seek emergency responders’ help when they dial 911.
We now can let the community know what emergencies are going on,” said Lt. Jesus Soto with the fire department. “We want people to know that they can also put any information in there, whether it’s medical, family, entry codes, anything you think is important for us first responders to know.”
That information is delivered real time to dispatchers and first responders, while those in command positions on the scene of an emergency can also use the app to get information out to a select portion of the registered users in the two cities, if need be.
“It’s not just people who live in New Hope or Crystal,” said Soto. “Let’s say you live in Brooklyn Park and you travel down to Golden Valley every day, that’s something where if you’re passing through, you’ll also get that notification.”
Anyone can register any phone number–landline or cell phone–from a computer or a smart phone.
“As long as your phone number is registered, that info will come up automatically and it will be seen up to 30 seconds after the call has ended,” said Soto.
He encourages anyone who is interested to visit the page on the department website that will direct you to the Smart911 system already set up for West Metro Fire-Rescue.
