Robbinsdale Updates Procedures for Winter Parking Rules
Robbinsdale city leaders made a change to procedures regarding when drivers should know its time to move vehicles off city streets when snow falls.
“The snow emergency starts when two inches or more accumulates and is in effect until snow is completely plowed from curb to curb,” explained City Manager Tim Sandvik. “Again, depending on the duration, depending on the amount at different amounts of time, again we will not announce when a snow emergency goes into effect and when it ceases. But that’s a good rule of thumb: when your street’s been plowed, it’s over.”
He said it’s not a new policy or new rule. It’s simply too hard to predict when two inches will fall or not.
“Even in a small town like Robbinsdale, we’ve got dozens of miles of road, almost 20 miles of alleys we’ve got to plow out, and for our small team to be able to do that properly, we need to have the streets cleared,” said Sandvik. “The impetus of this was really to continue to provide a high level of service to continue to plow the streets so people can get through safely. This allows us to do that and we appreciate people helping us out.”
The city will continue to provide updates on social media and through the weekly e-newsletter, Sandvik said.
The first significant snowfall of the winter brought warnings for drivers, but Sandvik said subsequent snowfalls could see ticketing or even towing if vehicles aren’t moved off streets.
