Robbinsdale Residents Now Can Participate in Curbside Organics Recycling
The city of Robbinsdale is rolling out its curbside organics recycling for all.
“It’s a state mandate and the county also requires that all cities in the county offer curbside organics recycling,” said Kayla Kirtz, the Sustainability Coordinator for Robbinsdale.
She’s encouraging residents to participate and do good for the environment.
“We’re reducing greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the amount of trash that goes to landfills,” said Kirtz.
Instead of going to a landfill, all food, bones, pizza boxes, napkins, coffee grounds, and other accepted items will go to a commercial composting facility.
If you don’t already have a bin for your organics recycling, you can contact the city of Robbinsdale and the recycling company will bring one to your house.
Kirtz says organics are picked up every Wednesday for Robbinsdale residents, regardless of the normal trash/recycling day. The monthly fee is $3.50, which is reflected as $7.00 on a bimonthly city utility bill.
“It’s really simple to do at home especially now with the curbside pick up just like you would trash and regular recycling,” she said.
Residents are required to pay for the service which will be about seven dollars every month on your utility bill.
So far, Kirtz says the program has been popular.
“Since about mid-December we’ve had about 250 residents begin participating in the organics recycling which is great,” said Kirtz.
