Robbinsdale City Leaders To Host Blue Line Open House August 21
The City of Robbinsdale will host a Blue Line Light Rail Extension Open House on Wednesday, August 21, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Elim Lutheran Church.
“We’ve been hearing from the community in formal capacities here at city council meetings. I know city council members and the mayor hear it more regularly. We as staff hear about it regularly,” said City Manager Tim Sandvik.
He said plans from Metro Transit are now at the point where, by state statute, cities along the proposed route, which would connect Target Field in downtown Minneapolis with Brooklyn Park and go right up Highway 81, need to vote on whether to grant municipal consent. Sandvik said the options city council will likely vote on in September include: Do nothing (same as consent), provide consent, or no consent.
“But now having a little more to provide feedback on, what we’re really looking for, not that this is the last time, but this is such an important point of the project to get that feedback as municipal consent is sought,” he said.
The city also has an online survey available for anyone who wants to provide input.
“People are concerned about going east to west, across the corridor, and that’s both during construction, afterwards,” said Sandvik. “We, as a city, have infrastructure questions, public safety questions. We continue to have a good working relationship with the project office, but certainly these conversations won’t stop. We’ll continue on, and we’ll look for that feedback again from the community in an ongoing fashion.”
