Robbinsdale City Cadet Tries Many Different Departments This Summer
Robbinsdale City Cadet Oscar Arreola-Urrutia’s job on a steamy Monday morning was pretty easy. He got a garden hose and used it to help a bunch of campers at the Summer Blast day camp cool off at Sanborn Park.
“Enjoying the outside,” said Arreola-Urrutia about his summer-long internship with the city, as part of a partnership with Empower Inclusion. “Exploring new places.”
This is the second year the city has partnered with Empower Inclusion to provide its city cadet program to a special needs young adult.

25-year-old Oscar Arreola-Urrutia is a Robbinsdale City Cadet this summer.
“He gets to work with all the different departments within Robbinsdale,” said Paul Rapp with Empower, who shadows Oscar. “He gets the opportunity to see a lot of different jobs, try out a lot of different things, meet people, just an opportunity to see a lot of different jobs, and expand his resume.”
Oscar has done everything from help out around city hall to helping paint lines on the city’s ball fields to helping learn about water resources and conservation measures.
“They’ve been a very inclusive city, offering him many different things,” said Rapp. “He’s really looked forward to every day of work, shown up with a great attitude, ready to explore every day. Every day he’s showing up with a smile on his face, kind of exhausted every day because he gets to try so many different things.”
