Registration Open for Brooklyn Park’s Citywide Garage Sale
Registration is now open for Brooklyn Park’s annual Citywide Garage Sale, which this year will be Thursday, May 15 – Saturday, May 17. Each year, approximately 150 families participate and host sales in their driveways and garages.
If you sign up by April 23, your home will be included in the guide maps and app that the City of Brooklyn Park manages to give shoppers the most up-to-date information about who is selling–and what they’re selling.
“We have a lot of compliments from many residents,” said Shanna Woods, who works in community engagement for the city. “We’ve actually had surrounding cities in the northwest suburbs reach out to us and ask us a bit about our model, because it’s a great way for residents to learn about where the sales are, what types of items are being sold, what categories of materials are available, and the residents also really enjoy the opportunity to connect with other people in their neighborhood.”
Kim and Russ Myrman participated in the sale last year for the first time. They both said they saw more traffic than in previous years when they’ve had their own garage sales on their own.
“That definitely brings the traffic through and a lot of people mentioned that they contacted through the city, different locations, so it really helped,” said Russ, who was able to sell some prints of some wildlife photographs he’s taken as a hobby. “It actually went over really well. A lot of people came.”
“I think we had a lot more traffic and some of the neighbors had sales at the same time, so you were able to visit many in the same neighborhood,” said Kim.
There will be an open house for those who are interested in hosting sales on May 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and May 8 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Community Activity Center.
Woods also said in the beginning of May, those participating can purchase up to two bright orange signs from the city to help advertise their sales.
