Plymouth Now Offers Text Alerts For Snow Clearing Updates
The City of Plymouth continues to find ways to update residents about how and where the city is clearing streets once a snowfall has happened.
The city recently unveiled text alerts for snow clearing updates, meaning users can get real-time updates right to their cell phones about where the city’s plows are working.
“Everyone has cell phones. Everybody’s got it attached to them in a purse or in their hand,” said Abbie Browen, Public Works Operations Manager for the City of Plymouth. “To be able to go and look at a text message rather than having to go to their GMail or what other app you use for your email and searching through trying to get that alert, it’s now at your fingertips, coming right as a text message, we can get that to you faster.”
This in addition to the city’s live plow tracker online and its email updates for snow emergency and snow clearing plans.
“It’s both safety and awareness,” said Browen. “It’s a lot easier to snowplow when there’s nothing in the way. Residential snow plowing is a lot different than an open highway snow plow. We’ve got a lot to maneuver around, so when we can tell you all when we’re going to be out, then we can take things out of the way, so that we can do our job more efficiently and faster and safer.”
She said city leaders want to be able to get streets cleared for a variety of reasons.
“It’s all a balancing act of trying to keep safety in mind but also getting it done as fast as possible because we understand that people have things to get to, lives to live, places to be, and we want to make that happen in a safe and productive manner as quickly as possible,” Browen said.
