“Most people can do most activities,” said facilitator Michelle Pettit, who is co-owner of Roots and Wings Therapeutic Services. “It’s just providing the right environment and the right supports.”
One way the city and Pettit’s organization is doing that is through adaptive and inclusive programming at the Plymouth Community Center.
“One of Plymouth’s civic values, we call it, is inclusion,” said Paul Pearson, the Education and Inclusion Supervisor with the City of Plymouth. “So, at the parks and recreation level, we’ve been taking a strong look at how we can improve and offer more adaptive and inclusive programs for children and adults with disabilities.”
Pearson said these types of partnerships to offer programming work well with regular Sensory Sundays inside the K.U.B.E. indoor playground or Santa visits to the Sensory Room inside.
“We’re trying to…build Plymouth as a place where families can come for adaptive inclusive opportunities,” said Pearson.
