Planning for the Future of Maple Grove’s Community Center
Maple Grove is looking to the future and planning out the next steps for the Maple Grove Community Center. With over 650,000 visitors every year, this community center is well loved and is showing its age. In addition to physical repairs and maintenance, there are issues with the space and how it’s laid out. The city hopes to reconfigure the Community Center. Ideas include expanding and renovating the swimming pools, additional space for senior programs, more space for the arts, and adding a third sheet of ice. The banquet space would be enlarged and moved to the south side of the facility to capitalize on views of the lake and Town Green and to add outdoor event space. The city is proposing a local option sales tax of a half cent over 20 years to help cover the cost of the project. The sales tax requires a vote and the question will appear on the November 2022 ballot. Residents will have a choice to support the local option sales tax or not.
