Osseo Outdoor Rink, Warming House Open for Season
Osseo’s outdoor skating rink is open for business, and city workers say the ice is as good as its ever been.
One year after warmer-than-normal winter temperatures limited the availability of the outdoor winter recreation opportunities many Minnesotans enjoy, the rink, located near Osseo Education Center off 6th Avenue NE, is in “excellent” condition, said long-time rink user and current attendant Nicholas Norman.
“The ice is great. I’d say it’s probably the best ice we’ve had in three years,” he said. “The other city workers have taken great care of the ice. The come here and re-do it probably once a week.”
The ice rink and adjacent warming house are open Monday-Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
“Its open rink. You can do whatever. I’ve had people come here and skate just to skate. I’ve had other hockey players come, I’ve had people just get on sleds and sled on the ice and hang out, so it’s open ice,” said Norman. “Whatever you want.”
