Osseo Implements Proven Method to Safeguard Ash Trees from Emerald Ash Borer Infestation
Osseo is treating ash trees throughout the summer
The city of Osseo is looking to eradicate the emerald ash borer from its ash tree population.
“Once these trees are infested, they’re incredibly difficult to save,” said Joe Amerman, Osseo Community Management Coordinator.
Osseo is taking a number of steps to prevent the Emerald Ash Borer from destroying its canopy of trees.
“What we’re doing is really trying to focus on prevention [and] preventing the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer beetle,” said Amerman. “What we’ve done is contract with Rainbow Treecare out of Minnetonka to provide treatments that reduce rates to public and privately owned trees.”
The treatments will begin in May and wrap up in early October.
The treatments are good for two years and residents should not be concerned about any issues to the environment or vegetation.
Treatments are Environmentally Safe
Amerman says the city is employing a proven and reliable method.
“This cocktail of insecticides they can actually inject directly into the tree itself down near the roots, and it gets taken up the limbs and throughout the tree and prevents the larva from nesting and feeding on the interior of the tree,” said Amerman.
With a long-term perspective in mind, the city’s commitment extends far beyond two or four years, aiming to preserve the health and beauty of its trees for decades to come.
Osseo residents seeking professional tree care can reach out to Rainbow Treecare which offers reduced rates on tree maintenance and other services.
