Osseo Has New Parking Rules Near High School
Construction at Osseo Sr. High School means some staff and employees now have to park on streets near the school, says Osseo Police Chief Shane Mikkelson. He said normally no one is allowed to park on streets near the school during school hours.

Teachers and employees at Osseo Sr. High School are allowed to park on streets nearest the school because of construction this year on campus.
“We’ve worked out a system with the high school so we make sure we’re giving them a break while the construction is on-going,” said Mikkelson. He said the first week of school saw about 30 citations from officers for cars who were either not staff or residents who were parked on the street near the school.
Mikkelson said there are often issues “at the beginning of the year.”
“This just threw a wrench into things,” he said, but he feels confident the construction will wrap up by the end of the school year and staff and employees should be able to go back to parking on-campus as before. The staff were allowed to park on the street so that students could continue parking on-campus.
“We’re not out here trying to write citations. We’re not making any money on this,” said Mikkelson. “This is not an issue for us. We just want to be cooperative and make sure our streets are clear, for the reasons that the students do have places to park. And once the staff does get their parking back, we’ll be back to normal.”
