Osseo Gears Up for 150th Birthday Celebration in 2025
Excitement is already building in Osseo as the city prepares for its upcoming 150th birthday celebration in 2025.
Leading the charge is Kathleen Gette, an Osseo resident who has a track record of championing the town’s historical treasures.
Gette, known for her pivotal role in saving the iconic water tower from demolition a few years ago, is now at the helm of the planning committee for the sesquicentennial event.
“I’m a little bit obsessed with the water tower,” Gette said with a chuckle. “It’s coming – the sesquicentennial is coming in 2025.”
With a planning committee of several dozen residents, Gette said more help is needed to ensure the success of the celebration.
A Call for Volunteers
“We have about 40 people now, but we can use more,” Gette emphasized. “We need ideas and people to make this the greatest event in Osseo’s history.”
Gette and the team of resident volunteers have been busy creating an array of commemorative merchandise to be sold prior to the event.
From t-shirts showcasing the iconic water tower, to a historical publication and an assortment of keepsakes, proceeds from the merchandise will help fund the upcoming sesquicentennial, which will coincide with the Lions Roar parade in 2025.
Gette said she is most excited about the project to update Osseo’s historical publication.
“In 1975, Osseo celebrated its centennial and there was a booklet produced at that time,” said Gette. “We’re updating the information from the booklet and then providing the history for the whole 150 years.”
Proceeds generated from the merchandise and book sales will go towards funding the sesquicentennial.
