‘No Mow May’ Helps Pollinators in Golden Valley
No Mow May is coming to Golden Valley.
What is that? It means leaving the lawn mower in the garage during the month of May to allow beneficial plants a chance to grow. Pollinators and other ground-nesting insects need these plants as habitat and food sources as they wake up from hibernation.
Here are some tips:
• Try doing No Mow May in just part of your yard, like the backyard or side yard.
• Remember to remove any noxious weeds.
• Refrain from using fertilizers and pesticides.
• Register your lawn with the city to differentiate No Mow May participants. It’s free and easy to register at goldenvalleymn.gov/pollinators.
