New Storm Water Fee in Maple Grove
The storm sewer system of storm drains, catch basins and pipes leading to storm water treatment ponds is all starting to show its age in Maple Grove. Their normal lifespan is about 30 years, and they’re due for maintenance to prevent flooding and other damage. To cover the upcoming maintenance costs and future operations and maintenance, the city is implementing a utility fee which will distribute the costs more fairly than covering it through property taxes. The cost for homeowners of an average detached home would be $5.50 per month, and more for commercial or institutional properties. The storm water utility fee is scheduled to go into effect January 1. For more information, go to http://www.maplegrovemn.gov.
