New Hope To Work on Road Projects in Two Neighborhoods This Spring and Summer
New Hope city leaders are deep into planning for two road construction projects in residential areas this spring and summer.
The longer project of the two will take place in the Northwood Northeast neighborhood, in the northern portion of the city nearest Northwood park. Public Works Director Bernie Weber said analysis there showed a full replacement of the asphalt was needed, and there will be repairs and replacement done on some of the curbs, drainage, and sewer lines underneath the road, too.
“It’s just spot replacement, due to budgetary concerns,” said Weber. “It’s not a full reconstruction.”
Weber said the project was pushed to 2025 because of budget considerations, and that he and other leaders met with residents in several different small groups to talk about the timeline and allow residents to help identify problem areas for things like drainage.
“A lot of residents showed up and we pretty much showed them, in detail, what we’re going to be doing this summer and spring coming up,” said Weber. “It’s a full reclaim, taking the asphalt out down to gravel, and coming back with two layers of asphalt.” He anticipates streets in those neighborhoods could be down to gravel for as long as a month but he hopes the work can be completed by mid-summer.
On the southwest corner of the city, a small neighborhood will have streets milled and overlayed, meaning a top layer of asphalt will be removed and replaced.
All of this is identified through the city’s ten-year pavement management plan, which residents can view online.
“It’s a long term plan,” said Weber. “We’ve watched things move on the pavement, and we’ve rated every year. So, if there’s certain neighborhoods that have deteriorated, we move them up on the schedule.”
