New Hope Infrastructure Projects To Include New Bridge And Trails
The city of New Hope has some major infrastructure improvements planned this spring and summer.
“This year we’re going to be doing 2.5 miles of roadways in the Sonnesyn Elementary neighborhood,” said Dan Boyum, City Engineer, New Hope. “We’ll grind up the existing pavement and gravel, fix some subgrade, and then pave some new streets.”
That project will also include sewer, water main, and manhole cover improvements.
The Winnetka Green neighborhood will also see some pavement upgrades and Meadow Lake Elementary School will get new pickleball courts.
“We’re also going to be doing some trail improvements on Hidden Valley Park right in the area where the city built a new playground last year,” stated Boyum.
Traffic delays and detours are expected along portions of Highway 169.

New Hope will partner with the city of Plymouth, as well as the state and county, to replace the existing bridge and interchange located at Highway 169 and 42nd Avenue.
That project is set to start in April and be completed by November.
New Bridge and Trails
“The bridge [will be] wider and they’ll be able to build two new trails, one on the south side and one on the north side that connects bicycles and pedestrians between Plymouth and New Hope,” explained Boyum.
This summer will also mark the final phase of a 20-year noise wall project along Highway 169.
“They’ll be constructing a wood plank and concrete post noise wall as part of those improvements… on the east side of 169 between Bass Lake Road and 62nd Avenue,” Boyum said.
New Hope residents should plan for road closures and detours.
