Medley Park Community Garden in Golden Valley
The tennis courts at Medley Park in Golden Valley have had a difficult go of it. Damp soil, combined with tree roots, have caused repeated damage to the asphalt over the years, and the tennis courts are now going to be repurposed. The Medley Park Community Garden will be installed in the tennis courts, making good use of the remnants of the tennis courts. The 10-foot tall fence will protect raised garden beds from animals, and the asphalt will remain in place to make the community garden ADA-accessible.
A community garden space has been high on the wish list for residents across the city. Some can’t grow a garden in their yard because of deep shade, while some live in apartments and don’t have a yard at all. The city hopes to have the garden completed in October so it’s ready for residents for the 2023 growing season. Watch for the community garden registration in next spring’s parks and rec catalog.
