Maple Grove Needs Volunteers to Help With Springtime Planting and Sprucing Up
Volunteers have two chances to get parts of the city of Maple Grove spruced up just as spring arrives in the northwest suburbs.
The city will host its Park Cleanup event on Tuesday, May 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Volunteers can help with trash pick-up, mulching, and planting flowers around the Maple Grove Community Center and Central Park.
Later that same week, volunteers can also help plant flowers along busy boulevards. City leaders say this is one of the biggest volunteer events of the year, with more than 70 volunteers expected to help plant flowers in the medians of Weaver Lake Road on Thursday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Elm Creek Boulevard on Saturday, May 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The city will provide trowels and safety vests, but volunteers are encouraged to bring whatever supplies they want.
“It feels like they get to be part of that beautification of the city,” said Recreation Supervisor Roee Hecht, one of the coordinators of the event. “Planting is just one of those things that it’s so much fun and people like it so much. We have families come, we have corporations come, we have businesses come. Large groups, small groups, individuals, and we have people just come and it’s a great time.”
The city wants any interested volunteers to fill out some information on this website to be entered in to the city’s volunteer database.
“We reach out to volunteers as we have events and as we have volunteer needs,” said Hecht. “it’s just a great way for people to express interest in wanting to volunteer with us and help us out.”
